On being labeled an Artist

I've been an artist most of my life. But, I have always considered myself to be a creative artist rather than just an artist. As an artist most people usually come up to me and ask "Oh, do you do portraits?". When I tell them "No" they usually get this dissapointed look and start to walk away. As a creative artist people don't seem to think of portraits at all. They usually ask "Oh yeah, what do you do?" and then I can tell them about my creative pursuits. Most times they still get confused looks anyway.

My Creative Pursuits

I have formal training in Graphic Design and Visual Communications but have spent the last ten years trying to untrain myself so as to realese more of the free flowing creative juices inside of me. I am a self taught sculptor and ever since the first time I picked up a piece of metal and started to bend, melt, and pound on it I fell in love with working with metal. I have taught myself how to weld and cut metal and have been pursuing metal sculpture since.

My Interests in Metal Sculpture

I have always loved flowing water, things that move and large things. Funny but true. In my metal sculpture i am pursuing Kinetic Sculpture, Found Art and Interesting mixtures of Water, Metal and Movement.

Right Now

I have been learning how to bend metal in interesting ways to increase the feeling of movement. I am pusrsuing this and feel really in touch with the flow of the metal.
